Uche Ogboi and Kagure Wamunyu are leading Africa’s billion-dollar e-logistics industry

The logistics industry in Africa is one of the fastest growing markets on the continent, largely due to massive opportunities for the trading of Africa’s rich resources both home and abroad. The $180 billion industry however has been faced with major challenges due to archaic practices such as the use of middlemen and paper invoices. Additionally, an underdeveloped infrastructure, complex political landscapes and dated public policies hold back the African logistics sector from realising its full potential.

In recent years, two major companies have made it their mission to transform the industry with the use of technology - they are Kobo360 and Lori Systems. Both companies are using sophisticated technology to connect cargo owners with freight trucks through a digital logistics platform, making it easy for them to get their goods picked up and delivered to the required location, with full visibility on cargo. Through technology, they are creating transparency for their users and also making it easier and cheaper for small, medium and larger companies to use their services.

At the forefront of these companies are two female trailblazers, Uche Ogboi and Kagure Wamunyu, who continuously lead both global companies to success across Africa. Their presence is a rarity in the traditionally male-dominated logistics sector.

Ogboi, who recently became the CEO of Kenya’s Lori Systems, joined the company in 2019 as Chief Operations Officer to lead the company’s expansion across Africa. During her tenure, she successfully created a structured systems-level approach, which enabled growth and expansion for Lori across East, West, and Southern Africa. Before joining Lori, Ogboi worked in investment banking with companies such as EchoVC and Citi, where she helped invest in companies across various sectors including logistics, healthcare, fintech, telecoms and agriculture.

Wamunyu initially joined Kobo360 as CEO African region, leading the company’s expansion into East Africa, specifically Kenya and Uganda. She is now the company’s Global Head of Operations, leading the company’s expansions and global strategy. Kobo360 is now present across seven African nations including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Togo, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso.

Prior to joining Kobo360 in 2019, Wamunyu was the Country Head, Kenya, at Uber and Senior Director of Strategy, East Africa, at Bridge International Academies.

Uche Ogboi and Kagure Wamunyu are phenomenal women who are paving the way for more younger women to take up leadership roles in technology companies that are shaping Africa’s future. And we’re here for it!
